S.A.L.T. Program
This organization provides an opportunity for groups to encourage the active participation of older residents in law enforcement services and to raise awareness regarding senior citizen concerns. The Sheriff's Office provides staff support for this program.
What is S.A.L.T.?
S.A.L.T.:
- is cooperation between law enforcement agencies and senior citizens.
- strives to reduce criminal victimization of older persons.
- assesses the needs and concerns of older citezens.
- leads to a broad dialogue on safety and security issues.
- is the link with elderly members of the community.
- combines common sense and imagination.
- is simple - and it works.
S.A.L.T. Program
Mission: To give older residents some influence over law enforcement services, and to raise the awareness of law enforcement officers regarding senior citizens concerns.
- Minimum Age: None.
- Probation Period: None.
- Required Training: None.
- Membership: You may become as involved as you wish.
- Required Equipment: Only an active mind.
- Additional Information: There are several S.A.L.T. councils throughout the county, including councils in Salem, Woodburn, Stayton, and Silverton. Each group addresses concerns specific to their area. Willingness to help people and a desire to be of service to the public and the Sheriff's Office.
